Live From the Playroom: . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . "Studies show learning becomes ‘Uncool’ at 4 yrs old"

We interrupt my regularly scheduled Not Me Monday’s to bring you this Special Pre-schooler Report

Live from the Playroom:
So being that preschool is starting up again this week… I decided it would be a good idea to begin brush up on His Majesty’s Writing skills….
I was so psyched when I got him to write his name… I took pictures and sent it to everyone I knew … I’ve even framed it for you!… LOOK LOOK!
Yes, he added an extra “A” … but I didnt care. Look at how good that A is! He could have wrote it 4 times and it still would have been a teary-eyed moment for me. (…The R, on the other hand- well we’ll have to work on that ha)
You had to see the big deal I made over it! I practically did cartwheels! I thought it would pump him up… which it did!

.. for maybe 5 minutes…

and then he decided drawing Batman was cooler—

*sigh* …
…o well…
…. maybe we’ll start looking into art schools…….. …

Hooray for writing his own name! My own 4-year-old isn’t quite there yet, although she’s close.

Either way, though, I think drawing hones the same fine motor skills. So even if he’s only interested in drawing Batman, he’s really gaining the same skills. And how better to keep learning fun than to allow him to pursue his own interests?

I love it! I have a Ryan too. That “R” gets him every time!
