Black Friday. You either LOVE it… or HATE it.
For me? Deal hunting is a year round sport- and its “Piston Cup” event –“Black Friday” It’s not just a day to shop in my family, it’s a day that we look forward to all year long! I’m serious! It’s right up there with Christmas… and why shouldn’t it be? Next to getting shoes, handbags or diamonds … getting an amazing deal is one of the few things in life that puts that twinkle in a gal’s eye…. and actually getting deals on Shoes, handbags or diamonds? -The ultimate utopia.
I remember as a child every Thanksgiving, my Aunts would sleep over my house to leave at the crack of dawn with my Mother and Grandmother just to take advantage of all the deals that they scoured out while cooking and cleaning up turkey the night before. (As women we are incredible multi-taskers, aren’t we?)
They would spend all morning catching the early bird specials and around one or so they would parade in, unloading their packages and refueling on some turkey sandwiches. I would wait anxiously to hear all about the shopping marathon…and where they were headed next. (Silly child, had no clue that all the BIG deals are gone- so it’s pretty just random shopping after lunch).
When I turned 18 (and those are the rules to participate!) I became part of the “in” crowd and started tagging along on these shopping marathons. Some call this insanity; I call it a coming of age.
Over the years, I’ve become a bit more seasoned when it comes to this shopping adventure and it’s become my goal to get as much holiday shopping done on Black Friday as possible- because I can battle the crowds that one day that the sales are hot and the adrenaline is pumping, but cannot deal with the crowds throughout the rest of the season.
I guess the thought of shopping with kids in toe, does play a factor into my loss of patience, the thought of battling the crowds and then coming home to deal with the everyday chaos doesn’t look to sexy to me either.
So, once Black Friday is done- its all about Cyber Monday & online sales (and there are a lot out there!)
Last year, the sales weren’t so great- so I decided I was going to Black Friday in my PJs on the web… and though I caught some great deals I learned that the internet can’t offer me that warm fuzzy feeling I get from mixing exhaustion with anxiety, the way only Black Friday can- So, this year you can find me with my 4am Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in hand (turbo shot please!), walking around like a crazy zombie on a mission, battling other crazed parents for make believe pet hamsters….just for the fun of it.
