Mommy is most thankful for Sangria- so we’re even.

I’m a total geeky mom when it comes to seeing my kid’s stuff on display in school. In September when The Complicated Boy’s preschool class did their first display board, I stood all teary eyed and proud of my boy who colored the best red apple on the board (even if he did write his name a little jumbled up) and snapped a picture of it.

This afternoon I went to pick him up & I noticed they changed over the bulletin board from Halloween to Thanksgiving. So of course I had to stop and look. They were pretty fall leaves arranged as turkey feathers, each feather-leaf had written on it what each child was most Thankful for. Very sweet.

One read: “For playing with my brothers”-Kaitlyn … awww

Another read: “For a pet squirrel, named chip”-Bryan G. … ok, slightly strange but still, awww.

So, where was my sons? I couldn’t seem to find it.

I thought to myself-
I’m sure it says for my baby sister or — Mommy and Daddy…. no wait, maybe it just says Mommy- Not that he loves me more, but you know…. I am the one who cares for him day in and day out, bathing him, providing snacks, meals, and entertainment round the clock… ok, so maybe its possible he could love me just an eensy-weensy bit more than Daddy… but that’s ok. I’d never tell. -So where is it?

and then

BAM!

I found it.

“This year I am most Thankful for Spiderman”- The Complicated Boy

Whaaaa???

Spiderman? He’s not even real!… what the Hell has he done this year? Did he plan & recreate Spiderman City in the child’s house for his 4th birthday? …. o wait, no… that was me. In fact I dont even think Spiderman showed face at that party. Mommy and Daddy brought in Magic Matt as requested by the birthday boy, Spiderman on the other hand? A total no-show. Actually, if I remember correctly- he wasn’t even on the wish list.

But maybe, since we are most, yes- .. MOST thankful for this fictional man with Super Spidey Senses- he should be put on snack and drink duty, sensing these requests every 5-10 minutess or at the very least maybe he could start sensing where the boy has lost his red pillow in the house for the 5th time today??… now that would be a super power, even I would be thankful for!

But then, I reminded myself, he is after all just four. He probably really meant the Spiderman birthday party mommy gave him or he meant SpiderMommy….

Honest mistake.

So, I sucked it up and marched me and my bruised ego down to his classroom to pick him up (yea, Spidey couldn’t do that either) and I jokingly said to his teacher “I just saw that my son is most Thankful for Spiderman, who needs Mom huh?” to which his teacher replied “Oh! its ok Mom, you never know with these kids. Another Mom expected to see her son said his father or his brother or something… but instead it said “MOM”… so that was a nice little surprise for her” …..

Ummm… yea, I guess it was….WTF??

I smiled and left. When we got home, I found his red pillow- got him settled with his after school snack and drink (yea, Spiderman that loser bailed again.. I guess he was too busy swinging from buildings) and decided -if I had a leaf to express thanks amongst my peers, it would say

“This year, I am most thankful for Sangria”- Complicated Mama

Because on the most thankless days, when my son is busy being Thankful for deadbeat no show Super Hero’s like Spider man, Sangria helps me continue to answer to the name MOMMY.

No worries, kids are fickle. Soon he'll be most thankful for Santa. ;)

Hahaha! That teacher didn't really help much by telling you that either, did she? When I was a kid I idolized Wonder Woman, so my mom went as Wonder Woman for Halloween one year. I thought she was a superstar. All you need is a Spider-Man costume!

    Cute post…found you on sits.
One day I fell down the wooden stairs of my garage, landed on the cement floor and bloodied up my shins a good one. One of my 3 year old twins came to door and said "Wow mom. You better get a bandaid on that…but can you make me lunch first?"
Seriously. Motherhood is not for wimps. Hang in there, I bet you are doing a great job! By the time he's an adult and has kids of his own he will be amazed by all the things you have done for him.
Also wondering how I can contribute to your cookie exchange. Would love to participate, can't quite figure out how to do so….
