Bathing Suit Season 2010..it’s on its way… here’s how I know.

I’m here to report to you today that Spring is just around the corner.

No, I am not a meteorologist- nor am I married to one, or even know any- But I’m telling you — its on its way… and will be here before you know it.

I know because, you know that one thing we all dread about the warm weather– yea, well I did it.

I tried on my very first bathing suit of the season.

.

It’s never pretty is it? …Trying on shorts for the first time isn’t a joy ride either.

.

We spend all winter covered up in cozy layers and then its time for some warm weather and suddenly it’s HOLY THIGHS!… where did they come from??? Every year same thighs, every year- same shock.

.

.

This year,  in a “Im young, I can be a MILF dammit” moment I  thought I’d be braver and try on one of those ‘sexier’ one pieces that have a deepcut that ‘reveals’ a little of your stomach. Similar to this one:

Yea– I know, who was I kidding?

It was by trying on this bathing suit that made me not only thigh conscious but  shiver at the sight of  what use to be a “sexy Belly Button”… at least I’m pretty sure that’s what that stretched out -wrinkly area in the middle of my stomach is… ?

So  I  instantly wrote a quick note to the 18 year old me… and it wents a little something like this:

Dear Miss- Im 18 and know it all,

Yes, piercing your bellybutton is so super cool and rebellious now, and yes you will have a great time hiding it from your ‘super uncool and horribly mean Mother” …

but in less than 10 years from now–and I know that sounds so far away– but its so  not… you will have had stretched out that area by bearing a child twice…

and though God will spare you on stretch marks, he will not be as kind on your belly button- in turn, leaving that mean old mother of yours (who by the way is your saving grace on so many occaisions after you have those kids) left having the last laugh. And even though at 29 you will be over your rebelling against Mom thing– this is still not an ideal situation.

So do me/you a favor and stick to what you know- being the good girl- cause lets be honest– you aren’t rockin’ Britany abs now anyway… the good news? in 10 years- neither will Britany ;)

Did you notice that after you have kids your belly button develops this line that points downward and looks like a frown. That frown is saying, “What the HELL happened to that cute belly I used to have before I had kids!”
Thanks for the reminder about bathing suit season. I'm hoping for an exceptionally long winter!

I can't take the cold anymore— but I can't take the summer attire right
now either… its a tough time of year.

Another thing I did when I was younger and will not do now ever— tanning
salon…. I too am pasty white… when will they come up with a safe and
decent tan in a can ?

This is why I stopped going places that involve bathing suits- as you said, shorts are traumatic enough. I'm hoping to change that this year though. And I stifled my inner 18 year old years ago by obeserving the early warning signs of stretch marks *GASP*

Bathing suit season… It's a dark time for many of us. We should
      start a support group ;)

    • http://www.complicatedmama.com Complicated Mama

Thx! :) I'm loving how neat it looks…its like spring cleaning of the
      bloggy kind.

Below, Jen- had a great stat about how more people join a gym this time of
year than in January! So from the looks of it Bathing Suit Season is not fun
      for anyone.

Cute idea. Like many girls, I felt awkward about my body as a teen and even into my 20s, but I'm over 40 now, what I would give to have that body back now!

Every time I walk into Target and pass the bathing suit section I throw up in my mouth a little bit. I don't even want to THINK about the cottage cheese I've acquired over the winter. And don't even get me started on the muffin top. I found pictures from my bridal shower the other day. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to prance around in a bikini all day long.

Found you over at Theta Mom Community!

Thanks for finding me :) I will most certainly check your site out as well.
I've found some great bloggers through TMC.

I saw a cute bathingsuit in Target too– but that was before I was brave
enough to try one on…. and now that I have, I definitely will now be back
to try on Target's — no matter how cute the suit is– the memory of the
trying on process is too painful.

I miss the shape I was in for my wedding as well! … maybe we need to plan
another wedding, and the lbs will shed from the stress– what do you say?
Think our husbands will go for it?

More people join a gym and diet during the Month of March than in January for this reason. Of course here in New England, we can get snow in April and pools don't open until end of June, so I got time ;-)

    • http://www.complicatedmama.com Complicated Mama

I didnt know that!! Thats a very interesting stat!

Here in NJ it usually doesn't get warm til end of May/June too

  • blueviolet

The whitness and opacity of my skin color frightens me right out of the dressing room every time. I can't even try suits on anymore. My days of water are over!

  • blueviolet

    I mean whiteness, not whitness.

Hi! Just discovered your blog through TMC. Love it and love this post! I too pierced my belly button at 18 … I'm now ttc and just crossing my figures that I won't get any awful stretch marks! (and yes, my mom warned me about them as well … ) Good luck with the swimsuit hunt! I'm procrastinating due to fear of being blinded by my pasty white skin glowing back at me in the mirror!

Thanks for visiting!… I am loving Theta Mom's TMC! :)

((sending you baby vibes… and a nice tan for swim suit season :) ))
