Social Media- everyone's doing it… even my mother.

The other week, my Mother went on a tirade, and not about your usual Motherly things.

She had noticed that distances were growing between her and her friends, and she had it pin-pointed to one specific, evil-doer- everyone’s new BFF- FACEBOOK.

Suddenly she and her friends were skimming for status’ instead of picking up the phone or having lunch.

So she did the unthinkable…. She started “defriending”. You can read more about that over at Jersey Mom’s Blog

But it got me thinking – with the fastest growing demo on Facebook being Females 55-65 , is there anyone NOT using social media?  You know, “That Fad” everyone is talking about.

At EVO, they showed us a video I’ve been meaning to share here, but being the slacker I am… I still have not gotten around to my EVO post.

So I thought now would be the perfect time to share it. It has some mind blowing facts on the growth of social media last year.

That cracks me up. My MIL certainly loves her facebook. As do pretty much all of the women on my husbands side. Hence the reason why my private fb is nearly always set to “offline”. ;-)

Facebook is one I really don't use very much on a personal level. It's funny, because my friends on it are just bloggers. I have no IRL friends at all. I keep them at a distance!

I show this video to my clients, especially those who 1)have no idea why social media is important, and 2)see no reason to use it. It makes the point, doesn't it?

I'm actually considering dropping Facebook. Until the security is better on it, I'm not thrilled with my children using it…which is the primary reason I'm on it. I know it's “how things are done now,” but I don't know if I want to do things they way things are done now, all the time.

Now, Twitter, on the other hand…that I like. :-)

I am dying, this is too funny. My mom had a Facebook for about a minute and then she cancelled it because it was getting “too complicated”. The friend requests, the food fights, the Farmville, she couldn't hang. Sounds like your mom is working her mojo as a sassy mama, love it!

My 69 year old dad asked if I was on “the facebook”. After a bit more inquiring I told him he need not even try. It would be too weird!
