A PSA on Home Improvements

Day 426 of our kitchen renovation – Ok, maybe not 426 but when you are shoved into a living space the size of a Children’s Place dressing room- with 2 children… and every kitchen gadget you’ve ever known-  just piled- Day 6 starts to feel like day 426 really quickly; Add in your hubby leaving you in the mess to go live it up in paradise for ‘business’ and take it from me, chances are good that you will find yourself rocking in a corner (if you can find one) hugging a bottle of Mommy Juice wine (if you can find one).

Thankfully we are 90% done.  As of today, my kitchen looks like this-
Which believe me, is practically a room you would find in Windsor Castle compared to the hot mess it replaced which was was very obviously professionally installed by the previous owner with electrical tape- leaving us with moldings that fell on our heads on numerous occasions.

And as we approach seeing the final product, I find myself beginning to say things like “This was totally worth it” … or “It wasn’t too bad”. Hindsight is evil like that. It’s like that point after you give birth, when can’t exactly recall the pain and you  think- “I can totally do this 3 more times!”

Thankfully, just last week I taped this video blog to remind myself of exactly what this Road to Kitchen Remodeling was truly like. I recommend you watch it too and heed my warning- no matter how sexy a fancy new kitchen sounds.

What it’s becoming looks amazing…and I’m sure you will love cooking in it! But I can’t imagine discovering mice (amongst other things) in my walls. Come to think about it…I’m sure there are things like that in my walls (ignorance is bliss).

Oh we did this a few years ago at our old home. My oldest was like a year old and it was so hard. We had to do dishes in the bathroom, it was horrible. And the mice, yikes! We did find a few too and shortly after our kitchen was done I heard one behind the refrigerated. I was freaked out!!!!

I am so with you!! We have found dead mice in the walls of our now playroom. Mouse nests in our kitchen walls. Living termites in numerous area’s of the house (So far 4 treatments to get rid of them. They are resilient little suckers!) Termite damage in the kitchen that caused us to rip everything out down to the studs, replace structural beams and things. We are doing dishes in our garage slop sink! Its already been about 2 weeks with no kitchen. It looks like it could go another 4 weeks (or more) until everything is done. We are doing ALL the work ourselves so it is a slower process when Hubby has to work full time. Oh, I can’t forget to mention the water that shoots out of the basement walls every time we get heavy rain, the electric wiring that was all WRONG throughout the entire house and the fact that we have 2 bathrooms we know need totally ripped out and start from scratch! (I’m afraid to see whats behind those walls, ceiling and floor!)
    Next home?? Brand new construction!

yuckyuckyuck. you poor thing. i’m sure if we opened up our walls, we would have a Club Med for yellow jackets in there. i know so bc we’ve had to have them sprayed twice already. it must be like sprawling Hamptons estate in there. gross. but the mice… the mice!… ugh, i can’t even talk abt the mice. good luck. what i can see of it looks great. hope to see it in person soon!
