Online privacy is a topic that I find my stance constantly changing, mostly because as a lifestyle blogger- my life is online- I put it there. However, when it comes to scoping out my home address, my kids schools etc… *that* is where I draw the line.
This morning, while browsing my Facebook stream I saw the below clip shared by the incredibly witty Mama Kat- only this clip was not one of her hilarious videos to win over Ellen Degeneres. It was an incredibly serious news story on how people (the crazy stalker kind) can pin-point your home address, children’s day care, etc by the photos you upload to Facebook and Twitter.
This is something that is important to be aware of even if the only social media tool you ever use is Facebook.
I’m talking full address, people. With a map. Creepy.
The site www.icanstalku.com posts people’s locations from their pictures to raise awareness of this issue.
Awareness? good. … Public site pin-pointing locations of random people? Creepy.
The good news though is that with a few setting changes on your smart phone, Its completely preventable!
Watch the clip and make your changes…. or I may just show up at your house the next time you post a photo to do it for you.
PS- If you are a blogger, this news story reminded me of another post from Mama Kat last year that you need to check out.
