In the Complicated Family, it wouldn’t be a birthday party with out some sort of unique twist or theme. Don’t get me wrong we don’t do anything that would be featured on TLC’s “Outrageous Kids Parties”, but we always try to do something a little different. So my kids hold nothing back when they request their party theme- because I have set the standard of “Mommy Can Make It Happen“….which I am not going to lie as they get older, becomes just a “wee” bit challenging.
This year, my son became obsessed with The Cake Boss (as you might have seen in this video), so naturally he asked for a Cake Boss Birthday Party. Which sounds simple enough- except he wanted to make a cake with REAL FONDANT- and well, folks- places like Young Chef’s Academy aren’t big fans of letting 6 year olds play with fondant (ages 8+ only).
So after calling around to 4 different places, I turned to the one place I knew would never let me down — Twitter. I asked for some suggestions and within minutes I received a tweet to try a place called “Francesca’s”.
I called Francesca’s Cakery in Freehold, NJ – visited her shop and booked the party right there- besides making fabulous cakes, she was the most sweet and patient person ever and even did a quick project with my son while we were there.
The long-awaited party was yesterday, and just look at how much fun we had….
When we woke up this morning, my sons first words to us were “That was the best birthday party yesterday.” {BEST. FEELING. EVER.}
What did we do before Twitter? Big thanks to Amy @JerseyStorks … everyone follow her because she rocks!
Oh, and for those wondering how I handled the class-invite-fiasco? … I only invited 3 kids from the class. 3 that he always talks about and who I had their parents phone numbers. I wish we could have invited a few more- but there was simply no way of getting in touch with some of them- without inviting the whole class. So 3 it was and I think they all had a great time :)
