Black Friday use to be part of the my family’s Thanksgiving traditions, however over the past few years- we’ve become completely LAME. The crowds, the lines, all of it hardly seems worth what we see in the flyers. “We’ll just online shop” was pretty much the consenus when I left our Thanksgiving dinner last night. Fast forward to this morning– my cousin and I exchanged text messages about how we were too tired to get up at 5am to start our online shopping…. in our own homes… in our PJ’s. Somewhere there’s a 2005 version of ourselves calling us wimps. What have we become? Does traditions mean nothing in this family anymore- or is Black Friday really NOT worth it?
*sigh*
Anyway, while I sip on my coffee at now 8:30am (told you – LAME) ready to finally begin my online shopping extravaganza I wanted to pass on a few nuggets…
1- List of online deals. If you’re “wimping it out” like me and online deals are what you’re seeking this Black Friday check out Vera Sweeney’s Black Friday list on Lady and The Blogfor retailer codes and deals. She scoured the internet and has made one killer list- Everything from Anthropology to CVS- for realz. Check it out.
2- DealzOn.com is a new site Mr. Complicated found last night at Thanksgiving (who needs paper flyers when we have smart phones). Dealzon is an online site that tells you where you can find the best deals in tech, gadgets and electronics. If you don’t love the first suggestion, you can just click “Give me a cheaper deal” and it brings you to a cheaper deal (if available). We’re finding this site especially helpful for our search for a new TV.
3- Don’t forget to give back. Children’s App developing company, Ruckus Media is doing amazing things with charity this holiday season. Ruckus is Partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for the annual Thanks and Giving campaign, a holiday program that asks shoppers to Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not,” while shopping this holiday season.
Now through Nov.28, Ruckus Media is reducing the price of their entire digital library to $1.99 and donating 100% of their net proceeds to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
So, with every Ruckus Media app downloaded, customers are helping research to find cures and saving children with cancer. Which is just amazing.
The Ruckus library include titles such as:
- Moms’ Choice award winner CHUCK AND FRIENDS: FRIENDS FOR THE LONG HAUL
- Holiday Read-Play-and-Record-Along classics THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
- iTunes bestseller (and my daughter’s favorite) MY LITTLE PONY: TWILIGHT SPARKLE, TEACHER FOR A DAY
If you have a moment this weekend, I encourage you all to check out one of these titles for your kids and support this incredible cause- because it feels good to do good.

** December 6th Ruckus will be hosting a Twitter Party for St. Jude’s as well. Follow them on Twitter and get the scoop. **
Happy Black Friday everyone! :)
