The past week and a half I have taken a MUCH needed break. I unplugged (for the most part) and enjoyed some time with the fam. We watched movies- and ate, played Kinect- and ate, shopped… and ate and then to end the year right- we invited friends over for a smorgasbord of cute little appetizers I found on Pinterest … and you guessed it, ate. {Damn you Pinterest!}
But tis’ the double edged sword of the holidays every year- great food and extra love handle-dge. I’d be lying if I said every January I don’t vow to go “hard core” back at the gym, eat healthy, etc. And regardless of critisims I’ve received about my always wanting to lose a few lbs, I think it’s perfectly normal. It’s important for me to be at a “healthy” weight because it boosts not only my confidence but my mood- and if you ask Mr. Complicated I think he would agree that last one makes eating healthy a pretty big deal around here.
And so when all the eating was done, and 2012 was here- like a true New Year’s cliche- we went to the gym… where I watched the Food Network and was inspired to cook and eat some more. {sigh} Seriously, why do they not have that channel banned in gyms?
Well I’ve chalked that all up to being ok because TODAY was National Weigh-In Day.
Special K invited the family and I down to their display in Grand Central Station to celebrate. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about stepping on the Special K scale but I was able to breath a big sigh of relief when I weighed in (with shoes on) and the scale read “SASSY!” … I thought… That’s right, I am.
To my dismay the scale was not for sale (Whomp, Whomp) but they showed me the fun new Special K Challenge Mobile App, which is also pretty cool. If you are not familiar with the Special K Challenge, you can read more about it here.
The Special K Challenge Mobile App (Available on iPhone and Android) has customizable weight management plans designed by nutritionists to help you meet your health goals- whether that means maintaining your weight or losing a few lbs or reaching a goal weight for a special event. You can take a 2 week Special K Challenge and access daily menus with corresponding shopping lists (which I don’t know about you, but for me this is heaven-sent), manage your plan, track your progress…. and it’s free!
The mobile app is a a branch of the already thriving community and online tools available on Special K’s 2 Week Challenge site. I don’t know how I did not ever see this before, but they make it so simple to create and follow a 2 week plan perfect for your dieting needs.
In just about 4 months exactly the family and I are headed to Maui. Mr. Complicated and I are determined to get in better shape for this trip we have been dying to take for 5 years!! If I can get one person to start the Special K 2 week challenge next week- I’d love to give it a try and have a challenge buddy.
Disclosure: I participated in National Weigh-In day through a partnership with TheMotherhood on behalf of Special K.
