The Launching Mom Revolution

Since launching ComplicatedMama just  2 months after my daughter was born in 2008, I have had the fortunate opportunity to merge my love for blogging and networking with my professional experience, creating my consulting business, Complicated Media. Its an opportunity that both my family and I are grateful for every day, because it allows for flexibility I could not have had working anywhere else. The husband and I don’t have to toss a coin to see who’s calling out when the kids have sick days (of which we have had many lately!) and every day at any given time I can stop work and step into their playroom to witness  their hilarious imagination.

Crazy to think that just 10 years ago, Moms only wished they could land a job working from home and today Mom’s are creating their own opportunities– isn’t it?

Yes, it’s true that running your own business has a constant learning curve and working from home is not always quite as cushy as it sounds. But as I juggle playdates with conference calls and dinner planning (and yes, sometimes breakfast for dinner- *is* a “plan”) I am reminded that although we still don’t have that mythical balance thing figured out- we sure are redefining it. And *that* is empowering to not only Moms but to the children who get to “go to work” with their parents and be part of it every day.

From graphic designers to authors, marketers to photographers and everything in between- today Moms are able to set up offices in our homes with our families.

And so today I’m beyond excited to share with you a new project I am working with the talented Heather Reinhard of ThetaMom who like myself  has also launched her business Theta Mom Media through social media.

If I had a voice right now I’d Squeee with excitement.

Launching Mom is a revolutionary concept that is supportive of Digital Moms and women in business who are dedicated to :

  • Following their passion
  • Venturing into newfound careers
  • Launching their own start-up companies
  • Seeking to ignite enthusiasm back into an already existing business or concept
  • Generating new ideas for entrepreneurial endeavors

Online the community site will have forums, resources and some fun featured content for Mom-trepenuers.

Offline we will be holding in-person Business Socials that will not only provide networking opportunities but tools for Digital Moms looking to take their business to the next level.

We are thrilled to announce that Rutgers University will sponsoring our very first Business Social Event,  which will be held at their campus on June 8th 2012.

More details on the Launching Mom mission, community and event can be found on the official website.

Whether you are a Digital Mom in business or considering starting up a business, I hope you will take the chance to check it out … and connect with us on Twitter and Facebook too! ;)

Apparently, Im not the complicated one.

I’ve been spending some time cleaning up the archives, and came across this oldie but goody that made me literally laugh out loud. My husband is awesome.

Proof, that I am not the only flake in the house -
@Mrcomplicated tweeted this pic yesterday ….
… as he arrived at a client meeting.
God, I love that man.

Where in the world is Complicated Mama?

That title is definitely so much more fun if you sing it to the tune of Carmen San Diego.  –Go ahead, I’ll let you re-read.

See? I told you!

So seriously, where have I been?

I feel like I ask myself this every single October. For me, October and April are always way more jam-packed-and crazy than December- is that weird? I don’t know.

Back to where the hell I’ve been…

After much deliberation, I found the perfect way to welcome in the 30′s.

I’ve been celebrating the sweetness of becoming 30 with Magnolia’s cupcakes – because 30 is the new 20 , and according to my cousin 40 is the new 30… which pretty much tells me I am a shoe in for living up my 20′s for the next 20 years… and that is Sa-weet!

Definitely not healthy, but yummy- and birthday's are always the exception.

I’ve been spending time with my family.

Great day!

My kids are huge Yo Gabba Gabba fans and the fabulous Candace at Mamanista offered us her tickets to see Yo Gabba Gabba at Radio City Music Hall the weekend of my birthday. The kids loved it.  You can read about it more on Mamanista’s site.

I’ve been in potty training stage one with the princess… meaning, she says “Mama, pee pee on the potty” often… and runs to sit on her seat, but its usually AFTER she’s already done her business. She finds this hilarious by the way!

I’ve been mentoring my 17 year old brother who just started up his very own sports blog, GenYSportsGuy. And since I have made a concious effort my entire life to know ZERO about sports- so for me, editing his posts are basically like editing greek.

(Ring, ring–> “Um Steve, is this word some kind of sports term or is this  a typo?”)

Anyway, his layout  & about me is not done yet … well actually there’s a lot still not done- but he has 3 posts under his belt -so feel free to show him love — you know if you understand sports-talk.

I’ve been gearing up for Halloween with The Big Toy Book …they have some great prices on some great costumes. So many, that my son can’t decide still if he wants to be Woody or a Vampire (I know, I know- night and day).

Working on Holiday planning… yes, I said HOLIDAY… Just 80 days left- you guys!

Working on school fundraisers, purchasing a Mr. Potatohead for my son’s Kindergarten class project– Mr. Potato Head. Um, what happened to making hand puppets?

I’ve been avoiding the fact that my blog plug-ins haven’t been working for a week and that my very pretty social share buttons that once sat up top there on the right have up and dissapeared.

I’ve been posting on NJ.com’s blog about Toy Recalls and the HFCS blogger controversy (Seriously, what- a- mess.)

I’ve been catching up with old friends… meeting  some new ones

& working on some really exciting things! {stay tuned for the big announcement!}

It doesn’t sound like much… nor does it sound very exciting but it is what I’ve been up to.

I promise once I return from my spa weekend (best 30th bday present ever!) I will be rested, rejuvenated and ready to be back here rambling as usual.

For now, Mr.Complicated and I are gearing up for a get away… and the grandparents are going to be left in charge. Rut-ro!
