Holy, Changes Zuckerberg! {Head Spins}

Facebook has undergone many.. many.. changes. Usually, these changes are small. Usually, these changes ruffle a few feathers

Case in point- earlier this week Facebook  rolled out subscribe buttons to allow users to customize their news feed, and a ‘real time’ status ticker- that really ticked users off.

And then this morning I read a  post on Mashable that made the news Mark Zuckerberg was set to announce at the F8 Conference sound… apocalyptic.

Well the changes have been announced, and while I don’t know about it being apocalyptic- the changes can certainly make your head spin.

Introducing the Facebook Timeline-

The timeline to me- looks a bit “blog like”- in that in addition to having “subscribers” it now also has a header picture. Which is… interesting. I guess.

The new Facebook timeline sorts content with an algorithm (of course). So you will see more  info on stories you posted, let say this month than- this past February- which will show as more of a “summary”.

Other  Changes

Activity Buttons

While the cries for a “dislike” button fell on deaf ears,  Facebook is adding other activity buttons such as “Read” & “Listening”- but no worries, they wont clog your stream because they will be scrolling in that ticker everyone loves so much :)

The Ticker, The Newsfeed, The Timeline, Oh! My-

There is now SO much information going on on one page. I suspect differentiating between the ticker, newsfeed and timeline is not going to be an easy transition.

Activities (including “likes”) will show on your ticker (that annoying scrolling box to the right.)

Shared posts will show in your timeline/ newsfeed.

Status updates? timeline/newsfeed

Sharing Music, watching TV shows and movies.

When you connect services such as  Hulu, Spotify and Netflix to your Facebook  account, you can share favorite songs, tv episodes and movies- watching them all- without ever leaving Facebook. Which I suppose is a big “win” for Facebook, but will the average user find it useful?

Will Mom’s just looking to connect and share pictures as a pastime find it user-friendly?

Is it “TMI”?

What do you think of the new changes?

Wait, people like this still exist?

Sometimes Facebook makes for the best blog fodder.

Today between my bon-bons and Oprah re-runs, I checked in to see what was new on Facebook, when I came across a status message of an old co-worker of mine , expressing her frustration with the great debate between work-at-home Moms and Stay-at Home Moms (as she is a Mom to be planning or returning to work)….

The debate is one that I’m not sure will ever be settled, and I fall into the in-between category of a work-at-home-mom. Parenting is hard.  PERIOD. Whether your job is in the home, out side of the home or if your job *is* the home- it’s tough.

MrCrazySayWahhh?

Soaps? Tea with the ladies? ….

As a mother who has struggled finding the right choice for me and my family (SAHM, WAHM or Working Mom)- I WAS FURIOUS.

I don’t like stirring up controversy on other people’s Facebook pages, but I knew someone else would speak up… and within minutes, someone did.

And of course Dale had a rebuttal-

Dude. Woah.

1st of all- who lives like “The Real Housewives” besides- the “Real” housewives?? 2nd of all “repercussions of a life choice” “fault”?

I don’t know about “repercussions” or “fault” but life as you know it changes when you have kids- its true.  Your marriage, your sleep pattern, your career- expecting it doesn’t make it easier, and neither does a Range Rover.

I must admit there are times (after breaking up 10 screaming matches between siblings) that my husbands job seems like a sweet gig- working uninterrupted, enjoying a peaceful, quiet commute to and from the office- sounds like a cake walk to me!

But the truth is that on the other side of the coin,  he doesn’t have the flexibility that I do to make it to school when the kids need someone there, he walks almost 2 miles to and from his office to the bus- in the rain, sleet and snow and most nights he gets home just in time to have dinner and see the kids off to bed. Which is exactly what a working Mom does.

Really, neither path is easier- or harder.

So how does the Annie Anybody/ Delusional Dale scenario end?

Forget “like”- where is the relieved button?

How did you make the choice to either stay at home, work at home or work out of home?

Has anyone every seemed to pass judgement on your decision?
