Forget "The Situation", I went to highschool with "The Lesson"- apparently.

I cannot make this stuff up folks.  I really can’t.

Earlier this week I was sent this article by a close friend of mine with the subject line of “OMG! Wait til you see this“…

An article that accompanied a picture that (dare I say?) looked a little like a rip off of the this picture below was attached….

Cliffs Notes version goes a little something like this:

  • 30 yr old (or older) men chart an 85 foot yacht for a “looka me” bachelor party- which they’ve been paying off since November.
  • Grown Men attempt to replicate the 20 yr old “reality tv stars” on MTV’s Jersey Shore by nicknaming themselves obnoxious nicknames such as : “The Moment”, “The Digitals”,”The Lesson”, “The Enforcer” and “MC Hammer Mas”. (Someone call DEP… the demand for hair gel just skyrocketed.)
  • Men call reporter (a-la-self-PR) to inform/report/fingers crossed land a reality tv gig from the attention grabber spectacle they had been planning for probably about a year. In an effort to ‘Wow’ the pubic, & show us ‘lame folk’ … ‘no one do like we do’ they include explicit quotes for the reporter & show her their closet of champagne bottles that they brought along….. (*wait for it… )to spray on girls(Its ok Diddy, my Mom always told me copy-catting was the best form of flattery)
  • At the end of this production… someone married one of these guys.

…. I know what you’re thinking.

…. I missed my calling to be Mrs. The Moment… You have no idea how devastated I am.

Jersey Shore & The View: At 20 what was your 10 yr plan? (#theviewmoms)

So while the house is quiet, I decided to catch up on my View watching. As I mentioned, I am participating in a Brand Ambassador program with The View- and this week being super crazy busy- I’m behind.

Today I watched Tuesday and Wednesdays shows with Ricky Gervais, The Cast of The Jersey Shore and Natalie Suleyman .

GREAT shows! I love watching the women go back and forth with opposing opinions.

The kids from The Jersey Shore were on Tuesday– and BOY did Whoppi– and JOY especially let them have it!

Today Joy passed comments of  “they can park my car any time”  and “Snooki you fake italian” when recapping the interview with  Barbara (who was absent for that particular show).

Whoppi ‘s main point was that their 15 minutes of fame is going to be fleeting and wanted to know what their plan was for their futures. To little to no surprise none of them really had a concrete answer for this- only feeding Whoopi and Joy’s points.

While I have talked about in my post on my personal Jersey Shore experience,

I don’t agree with a lot about the show and how it’s being glamorized- However, a 10 year plan at 20? 22?… I have to stand up for them here and say at that age- I don’t know that me or ANY of my friends for that matter had a 10.. or even a 5 year plan. At that age you’re all about just figuring life out– and doing what they’re doing!… ok, well maybe not to that extreme- but you know what I’m saying.

What do you think?… is that question fair to criticize a 20 year old about? Did you have a 10 year plan at that age? What was it– and did you stick to it??

Disclosure: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other The View branded items to facilitate my review.

The “REAL” Jersey Shore

realjsAfter watching quite a bit of the REALLY bad reality shows that are on tv today, like the Entertainer of Love – 30-something, living in his parents basement … and then watching my 14 year old sister’s Facebook status completely blow up with her and her little friends idolizing the cast of MTV’s “JERSEY SHORE”- I started to worry for my children’s futures.  THIS is the picture of fame and accomplishment? REALLY? .

So I decided I was going to write about it for my blog on NJ.com. My editor asked that I wait off on posting and watch The Jersey Shore’s latest episode before we posted… and so I did.

And while, I still worry for the future of teens who are growing up with their vision of accomplishment as being filmed with “Situations” at Seaside, NJ… I spent the entire show laughing harder than I’ve laughed in a while. Mainly, because it reminded me so much of a day, I knew- not so long ago.

us

Though according to my sister’s friends it’s EONS ago… because they think 29-30yrs old is SO old.. “Gross”.

(sigh)

What these teenagers today, don’t seem to understand is that being young and stupid is something we all do… but there is something about being able to leave those days in the past where no one can see them, that is comforting (lol).. because “Party Girl/Guy” is neither who we aspire to be for the rest of our lives, or what we plan on listing at the top of our resumes.

During my Jersey Shore days, I never had a poof, or a Situation… or the “potty mouth” & Bad attitude that we see on tv today, but my house still had the “guidos”.. and the fist pumps. So I’m going to do something brave and take you down memory lane with me…. 2 towns over from where MTV filmed, BELMAR, NJ…. A place that is only partially being accurately portrayed on MTV (for better or for worse), a place where we were not getting knocked out by random men at bars, or fighting over Flinstone toes… but possibly had suitcases of clothing thrown from balconies and stiletto heels flung at boyfriends. The REAL Jersey shore.
