The Big 3-0.
It’s been stalking me…. lurking just around the corner for quite some time- approx. 3 years to be exact. Once you hit the 7th year of decade it seems the only thing you hear about is the following decade. Suddenly its not “Happy 28th (38th, 48th) Birthday”- It’s “Happy Birthday”- quickly followed by- “Just 2 more years til ‘the Big’ Three (Four, Five)- Oh!” How can each one be big? What’s so big about it? The biggest birthday in my opinion was my 21st because I no longer had to sneak into bars with fake ids (not that I ever did that anyway, Mom). At the time, No one ever said to me at 19 “Just 2 more years to “the Big 2-1”.. And legal alcohol- That was pretty damn big if you ask me (and all my friends who took a limo bar hopping in NYC to celebrate that year).
For the past 6 months, I’ve been hounded at least 2-3 times a day by various people asking “What are you doing for the big birthday??”
Remind me why we need to make a big deal about this again?
The pressure makes me less enthused- especially when I’m not feeling quite as stoked as everyone else cause dammit- I still feel 21 and lets be perfectly honest those “old lady” jokesare only absolutely hilarious when I’m not on the receiving end of them.
Anyway, now its here. Well almost- 2 more weeks. And BAM!- 30
And, No. I don’t know what I want to do to celebrate.
Mr.Complicated turned 30 back in April and we had a big what-to-do party that stressed me out for weeks. I hate surprise parties. They make me nervous & send my already anxiety ridden mind into over drive because I am a terrible liar. But, I did it – for him. Because when I asked my husband who like his wife has yet to master a “poker face”, his mouth was saying “No party” but his face was lighting up like a kid on Christmas morning just thinking about at the idea.
So I embraced my duty as Party Planner Extraordinaire and present to you….

And threw him the best party I could- plus an IPAD (the most expensive “surprise party cover up” idea I’ve ever had).
But I have made it abundantly clear to EV.ER.Y. ONE, I do not want the same. Why?

Flash forward 6 months to present time. This would be my Birthday-

Same people. Same Party. Been there. Done that. …. only this time I’d be the one not dressed for the occasion- and I.HATE. THAT.
My friend’s sister had a fun retro girls night or her 33rd birthday. We dressed up, took professional pics & then headed to out for some drinks and dancing .
That was fun! – but leaves out the hubsters…. Oh the guilt.
So what to do for my 30th birthday? I don’t know. I’m still having an issue seeing the big fuss. So if you have any ideas, please do send them my way… cause the quicker I come up with an answer the quicker we can move on to the old lady jokes and have this day behind us.
