Musicals are one of my long-time guilty pleasures. My very first musical movie obsession was with Annie when I was probably about 4. Then I graduated to loving Grease, then Newsies, the list goes on and on. I knew (and still know every word) to all of the musical numbers in these movies and without even a shed of embarrassment I would belt them out (off-key), over and over and over.
Today, I love watching musicals with my kids. The look on their face when I can sing along, always tells me they very impressed by my every-word-singing-skills– or they are totally embarrassed and just praying I don’t do it in front of their friends (oh, the horror!).
If you are a musical-movie lover like me and have Netflix, here are 9 Must See Musicals On Netflix you will want to check out (some for the kids, some for just for you)!
1. RENT starring Idina Menzel
Back in the late 90’s, I was a total RENT-HEAD. I waited outside the theater doors every weekend for lottery tickets. I’ve seen the play live 12 times … I loved Adelle Dazim back when she was still Idina Menzel. The movie is a must see.
Because it’s a classic!
3. Footloose
Admittedly, I am not a Kevin Bacon fan (I know, I know… blasphemy!) but there’s no denying Footloose is a classic and if you have Netflix, it is always at your fingertips when you get that urge to revisit the 80’s.
This is a taping of the Broadway production and my 5 year old cannot get enough! She watches this one at least once a week.
