We here at the Complicated Chateau have been weighing Halloween costumes for WEEKS.
In my experience, the older kids get, the tougher this whole picking out a costume thing becomes.
My oldest son (9) is at the point where he wants to dress up because… candy, but is bordering on “too cool” to get REALLY “dressed up”. This year he tried to maximize the opportunity by scoring a new basketball Jersey, claiming he wanted to be LeBron James. Yea, no.
So he settled on being an NBA referee.

He is just a few trick-or-treats away from being one of those big pillow case kids who go door to door seeking the left over candy late at night, I know it.
My daughter (6) decided to poll the kids in her class–
“Candy Corn Witch or Candy Land Princess?”
In the end, the Candy Corn Witch won… but the polls didn’t close until yesterday– talk about being down to the wire.
If you are still pining through costume options with your kids, below are some of my personal favorites this season that you can still score or whip up in time for Halloween (none of which my own kids picked out, of course). Perhaps you’ll have better luck swaying the costume debate in your house :)

I totally just bought parts of this couples costume below for James an I. HA! He is SO against dressing up… but I figured buying the costume insures he will wear it -so wish me luck!
