Chugging along your day, it hits you. You suddenly cannot for the life of you focus long enough to finish a thoug… finish a… finish … wait.
No. Seriously.
What was that thing you were going to do, again?
… Oh, right! Petition for siestas! Because a siesta sounds downright DREAMY right now.
Don’t even bother glancing at the time, friends. When this scenario plays out, you know that it’s around 3pm because that mid-day slump is setting in with the fierceness it always does.
It happens to the best of us– daily.
The good news is that there are ways to combat these lackluster, listless moments.
Below are a few killer tips to recharge and kick that mid-day slump to the curb– because your clients, your boss, your kids, LIFE– requires you to be on the clock way beyond 3pm.
Chew minty gum
Research has shown that minty gum can actually make you more alert and increase your energy. Which is why at any given time you can find packs of my favorite spearmint gum in my car and every handbag I own.
Eat chocolate
Yes. I said eat chocolate. Many of us know that the antioxidants found in dark chocolate have lots of benefits, including lowering blood pressure and increasing flow of blood and oxygen– but did you know that dark chocolate can give your energy level a boost? It does!
Am I the bearer of the best news ever today or what? So go on with your bad self and dig into that secret stash.
COFFEE– on the rocks.

If this Folgers® Vanilla Biscotti coffee (that I chilled over ice) looks like perfection on a crisp autumn afternoon, it’s because… it is.
Especially at 3pm.
Coffee sounds obvious– especially to my fellow coffee lovers –but I am specifically suggesting that you make your mid-day cup ICED.
Unlike my minty gum tip, this has not been scientifically proven, but in my ‘professional coffee drinking’ experience– my morning cup needs to be hot for a nice slow wake-up and my afternoon “cup o’ Joe” needs to be ICED to jolt me back to productivity. Try it!
Switch gears–unplugged.
Can’t concentrate? Stop what you’re doing and do something completely different.
And I don’t mean to open up a new window and peruse Facebook.
UNPLUG.
Write a to-do list. Call a friend.
It will hit the reset button on your sluggish, over-loaded mind.
Soak in the sun
Sometimes being in doors all day gets a bit stuffy by the time late afternoon rolls around.
Even if for just 5 minutes. Go outside. Get fresh air. Take a walk.
Instant energy boost every time.
