Seeing women succeed in business is one of my favorite things in the world.
As a working woman myself, I know that there can be a lot of obstacles to overcome and everyone’s path is different. So when I hear other women’s “road to success stories”, overcoming a variety of different adversities, it is always incredibly inspiring to me.
Which is why I am excited to partner with TracFone and Dress for Success to support their Success is Calling program. The program launched last year and was designed to provide women who are in the job market with the knowledge, skills and tools needed for the first step in the interview process– the phone interview.
We all know first impressions are important and phone interviews can be crucial to getting to the next stage of the interview process because it helps employers gauge a candidate’s confidence– and if there is one thing I’ve learned in business, it is that confidence is always the key.
The Success Is Calling program teaches women not only how to present themselves during a phone interview but empowers them to feel prepared in any interview situation.
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend their Afternoon of Empowerment in New York City which celebrated and highlighted some of the accomplishments of the 300 Success is Calling graduates.
One of the graduates we heard from that day mentioned about how she learned the importance of getting “head to toe” dressed for a phone interview and I was all head nods. Working from home, I personally put this into practice all. the. time. and it is super effective, because when you look ready, you feel ready. Getting head to toe ready for a phone call is something many people might not think to do (I mean, they can’t see you in your PJ’s, right?? ) but trust me it can make a world of difference.
The three program graduates who spoke during the Afternoon of Empowerment were all smart, educated and experienced women from different parts of the country. Some had been out of the workforce for some time, others were fresh out of college and getting discouraged by their job hunt. Each shared their individual struggles, battling their own self-doubt (which I think is something we can all relate to at some point in our lives), and how the Success is Calling program has helped them regain their confidence, refine and discover their skills and strengths (some that they had all along), and put them on career paths they’re excited about.
Upon completion of the program, each woman is provided with a new smartphone and year of service to support them as they embark on their new career path, which is something all 3 women agreed has proven to be invaluable to them.
This program was such a success this year TracFone and Dress for Success is expanding the Success is Calling program– offering free coaching and education to over 600 women across the country in 2016!
