Date nights can be so few and far between when you have kids. While dinner and a movie is always great (and I will never turn it down), sometimes it’s nice to do something a little out of the ordinary.
Last week Mr. Complicated took me to the premier of Cirque Du Soliel’s KOOZA on Randall’s Island, NY.If I am being honest, I moaned and groaned the whole way there because I had to drive from NJ around rush hour with James calling every 2.5 seconds “where are you now?” {5 minutes later} … “Ok. How about now?” – I love him to dearly, but… really.
I have never been a big circus fan ( smelly elephants, scary clowns, creepy ringleader, OH MY!) but KOOZA is not your typical circus. Between the costumes and make up, the stunts and the storyline, this acrobatics act was nothing short of A-MA-ZING!
{Note: While there were kids in the audience, I could see some kids being a little scared. The costumes were incredible without a doubt, but definitely on the “dark side”– including an act with skeleton looking characters.}
About the Show:
KOOZA tells the story of a small child-like lonesome clown, named The Innocent.
During the show, the Innocent is in search of his place in the world. His journey begins with him innocently flying a kite and brings him into contact with a cast of fun characters such as the King, the Pickpocket, the Obnoxious Tourist and his Bad Dog and the Trickster. 
In the show the “Trickster” acted as the RING LEADER. Seemingly a little dark and mysterious, he revealed magic and stunt acts to both The Innocent and the audience like no other. The contortionists were insane. Their act, both mind-blowing and a tad disturbing. I swear they had bones removed from their bodies. Really who can bend like that??
Side note: This may sound like a strange pondering but I’m just going to say it. As a woman, I couldn’t help but wonder- how do they wear those skin tight leotards with no “camel toe”? Just saying. Most women wearing tight jeans have this issue! Talk about magic.
Anyway, back to date night.
The great thing about these special nights away from the kiddos? You always stand the chance of learning something new about your significant other. During the show I learned James apparently has a bucket list wish to being able to master juggling. Who knew? I can add JUGGLER to his list of back up careers. Now do we list this before or after his back up career of “Christmas Tree Sales Person”? That is the question.
