Summer time weather screams for fun casual hair styles filled with messy buns, braids and beach waves!
Being a pin-straight, fine haired gal myself, beach wave hair is always something I am trying to achieve (The grass is always greener– right?). I’ve found quite a few ways that effectively achieve great beach waves, but keeping them in is the challenge, so I continue to try new methods and products.
This weekend I had the chance to take L’Oreal’s True Grip powder & Satin curl mousse into the Complicated Beauty Lab to test their ability to keep in beach waves in this super fine hair of mine.

The True Grip Powder was a bit perplexing at first, as I’ve never added a powder to my hair for grip. Thankfully, I was following a new L’Oreal step-by-step tutorial that clearly showed how to apply the powder (the video literally pauses step by step- check it out here).
While I like my beach waves a bit fuller, than the way the L’Oreal tutorial worked on my hair type- I will say that the texture the Grip Powder gave my hair was so impressive, I ended up using it the next day for a fuller straight-do.
Note: with the True Grip Powder, just a little poof of powder will do. Adding too much powder will leave your hair feeling stiff and knotty.
Below are my results from the CB Lab test along with 2 other methods I’ve used for achieving beachy waves that I think would stay even better with L’Oreal’s True Grip.
(My apologies for some of the lame instagram pics. I had to go digging through the Complicated Beauty Lab archive to find examples.)
