Flu season is upon us… already. This year was the first year I received my flu shot in … I can’t tell you how many years. I’m a total baby about shots (yes even after birthing 3 children) …. but this year with the new baby everyone in the house will be getting shots, and taking all preventative measures.

Listed below are some of tips for this dreaded season as well as some of my family’s tried and true essentials.
Humidifier. When Ry was just 9 months old, he got whopping cough. It was the most scary sound I had ever heard and unfortunately, it came back every year for the next 5 years! Having a good humidifier was essential as the cool s team helped breath easier.
The Vick’s Starry Night Cool Mist Humidifier comes in pink and blue and the star projector makes it perfect for a child’s room. It is super quiet (which if you’ve ever had a loud humidifier you know how great of a feature that is!) and produces a cool invisible moisture. This humidifier can dun 18-24 hours and has a baby scent (not the usual medicated scent) produced via a pad heater. Refill Vapo-pads retail for $5.99.
A Quick And Accurate Thermometer. As kids get bigger, getting them to use a traditional “under the tongue” thermometer is easier… but with little ones? It can be an almost impossible task . I’ve tried the ear thermometers, which are a little easier but I recently saw my sister in law quickly scan my 1 yr old nephews forehead with the Braun forehead thermometer and was all starry eyed “What… is that?!?!” She showed me how easy it works- giving an accurate reading in just seconds by swiping it across the forehead. I had to have one.

Want a Braun Forehead Thermometer too?
I have one to give away to one lucky reader!! (Deets at the bottom of this post.)

Tissues- LOTS of them. Puff’s Plus with Vicks. You’ve seen the commercials, but have you actually tried these? They are the best things to ever touch your nose. We tried these last year for the first time and have never turned back. They’re gentle and help open up clogged noses. Also, we keep a stash of travel tissues to make sure the kids have them for school and we have them for the car… there are never enough tissues during this season.
Purell -travel size! Of course the full size Purrell is always in arms reach in our house during flu season, but the travel ones are must haves for school age children and for keeping on your diaper bag when traveling with wee ones. My kids love using the purell so getting them to use it is never a problem. “Did you just blow your nose? …. Don’t forget to sanitize those hands!”
Cough Drops. Like the tissues, these are stocked items in our home. Much thanks to post nasal drips, it seems someone is always complaining about scratchy throats.
Honey & Peppermint Tea. More essentials for colds. Peppermint tea feels amazing on a sore throat, as does honey.
Vicks Vapo-rub. Though not the sweetest smell, when you are feeling congested? There is nothing like Vicks Vapo-rub. !
