Today, little Mr. Avery Bear is 1 month old.
This month has possibly blown by quicker than any other in my life. It’s been a month filled with TONS of goodness … but to describe getting settled in with a baby, moving into a new home (AT LAST!!)… and getting EVERYONE in the house settled all over again, as exhausting- is an understatement.

We had a little scare this month, when what was a small pimple on the baby’s thigh one day morphed into a large yellow boil /staph infection the next!
Though it was scary for sure- the infection was caught in time and he did not have MRSA. So with some antibiotics and daily doctor follow ups, I’m happy to report that the infection is now healed. Aves was amazing through it all- not even crying for bloodwork or the IV while in the ER. I cannot say the same for myself. Thankfully, my mother (pictured above)was by side through those first nerve wrecking hours.
But word of advice to new and expecting Moms– There is no shame in being “The Purell Mom”, we all have bacteria on our hands an you never know how it may affect your little one. Insist everyone wash and sanitize their hands before handling your bundle of joy.
These busy days, highs and lows, and lack of sleep (Avery loves to party all night and be held all day)… has left James and I completely zombie-fied.
I’m talking the kind of Zombie-ness that both allowed me to forget to make Sweet Potato Pie this Thanksgiving, despite it being my signature dish for years, and has us acting like cranky 5 year olds who need a 4pm nap every day… and by “us” I mostly mean me by the way.
Still, we must push on.. everything is only momentary, right? And if we lived through the exhaustion of Laina’s “partial colic” phase (which I’m pretty sure is Dr. code for “I have no idea why your baby won’t let you put her down”), this exhaustion too shall pass.
This past month, I’ve been mostly un-plugged to adjust to our many new norms, and re-learn to function on 1/2 the sleep I was use to, but this week me and Mr. Aves are embarking on another new routine as I begin to dig my way out of my inbox and return to working at home.
The more my new co-worker sleeps on the job, the better.
Wish us luck!
xo,
Complicated Mombie
