Dieting.
It’s something I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember.
In my teens and early twenties, I tried all the fads– including the cabbage soup diet- which by the way is torture. I removed carbs, added cayenne pepper and drank green teas and smoothies. You name it, I tried it.
And then around 23, I began to realize these fad diets weren’t making me look or feel better. In fact, they made me feel worse. I would remove entire food groups out of my diet (ie. carbs) and become incredibly “Hangry” (Hungry + Angry) and moody.
Of course, I was depriving myself of foods I loved and in some cases, vitamins my body needed.
This week Team Kellogg’s and I are talking about eating with balance to achieve healthy goals.

Learning to be mindful of how active we are and what we are eating through out the day, is key to long term weight loss and healthy living.
It’s how I lost and kept off 30 lbs when I was 23, how I lost and kept off my baby weight with my two oldest children and how I am working on losing my baby weight this time around.
Here are some things that help me stay balanced and meet my healthy eating goals–
- Break a larger goal down into smaller, achievable goals. This is a great way to stay motivated. Last week, I began a conscious effort to add more water into my day. It’s become a game every day to reach that 8 glass goal.
- Keep low-calorie, nutritious snacks on hand. The second I think about eating healthy, I’m instantly snacky. So I pre-plan for those snack-attack moments. Things like fruit, dried plantain chips, Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Granola Bars and Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars all make great low calorie snacks through out the day. Having them on hand help ward off the temptation to reach for candy.
- Keep a food and exercise diary. Writing it all down makes you more accountable and aware of where you maybe need to cut back or add to your day. A pedometer is also a great way to keep track of how many steps you are taking. When you are keeping track, what you find may surprise you.
